feminism

I started it myself. It is the easiest topic to start people talking. So, I just casually mentioned something about feminism, something as obscure as: some random woman didnt want her fiance to give her a ring because she felt it was a symbol of posession than ... well, just a ring.

All hell broke loose. I think it was the day or the time or...something. The whole office joined in. I managed to drag a footstool in the centre of the room -- to act as a soap box. Lets see, some observations:

1. Feminism--what is feminism......(man hating, short hair, loud voiced women, women in pants, women who smoke cigars, women who smoke--period!, bitter, rejected, lesbian....the list is endless, really)

2. Feminism is really a ploy to ensnare all eastern women into the same 'trap' that the western woman is facing--work, children, home.

im always troubled by this question--the identity of the feminist. the idea, really of being 'A FEMINIST'. The usual stereotype of a woman (apparently, feminists dont like the word girl) who almost wants to emulate a man, actually does a huge diserivce to a whole lot of other women who are as much, oif not more actively advocating equal human rights. the idea of separating 'women's right' from this was only a means to acheive equal rights for all--man, woman, slave.
